ftm Ahead of the News – One Of Those Iranian Suits WAS Flogged On eBay!

In our story about the released British sailors and marines who had been captured by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and the subsequent decision, later revoked, by the Defense Ministry to allow those released captives to sell their exclusive stories to the media, ftm noted sarcastically in its final paragraph:

“As one commentator asked, ‘What next, do we find those new three-piece Iranian suits given to the captives being flogged on eBay?’”

With that in mind we pass on without comment this item with picture from the UK’s Mail on Sunday:

“A Royal Marine taken hostage by Iran has been given a dressing-down by commanders after trying to sell the free suit he was given by his captors on eBay.

Lance Corporal Mark Banks, 24, was ordered to remove the cheap, shiny suit from the internet auction site by the Ministry of Defence after seeking minimum bids of 99p.

A senior Royal Navy source said: "Banks has been given a right royal dressing-down by the top brass. He has behaved like a prat. This was a very stupid thing to do. But as he has committed no criminal offence, no further disciplinary action will be taken."

As they say, truth is stranger than fiction. – May 7, 2007
