Thelondonpaper Wins Major Distribution Contract At London Rail Stations

Thelondonpaper, the free PM published by News International, has won a seven-year contract to provide exclusively its free newspaper in bins at London’s 10 main train stations where more than one million people pass each weeknight.

In the first audit of the free PM newspapers the londonpaper had a circulation of 327,120 while Associated Newspapers’ London Lite had 359,389. Both newspapers have been using many vendors outside the stations, but had not been allowed inside the stations, and News International said it will still continue with some of those outside vendors, too.

But the really large distribution tender – at the Underground (subway) stations -- has still to be announced, and probably won’t be until near the end of the year. Associated Newspapers will not want to be cut out of those venues, too.

But for thelondonpaper to have rights within the main train stations themselves should certainly give their circulation a lift. The newspaper says it hopes to start using the bins some time in November. The price of the winning tender was not announced.
