The Audience Doesn’t Suffer, They Change Channels
all ears Show hosts attract and hold audiences. Every broadcaster knows this. It’s the jokes, the stories, the wink, nod and tone. There’s more. They give voice to the brand. Messing with this can be a disaster… and expensive.

Digital platform attracts alternatives
Good brands live forever

The once popular alternative rock brand KINK FM is returning to Dutch airwaves, through the wonders of the DAB+ platform, reports mediamanager.nl (November 7). Earlier the station’s owners announced a re-birth online and podcasts. The national DAB+ multiplex is fully subscribed and the new KINK is replacing a lessor used channel on February 1st.

The original Dutch KINK FM took to the airwaves in 1995 as a cable and satellite channel then closed in 2011. It briefly operated thereafter on the internet before owner V Ventures, operator of legacy Dutch radio station Veronica, pulled the plug. Jan Hoogestein, who had been general manager of KINK FM until 2006, acquired the brand name in 2015. He first intended then did not participate in auctions for regional Dutch FM licenses last year. Kink FM never appeared on the Dutch FM platform. (See more about Dutch media here)

The almost singular advantage of the DAB and DAB+ platforms is giving broadcast space to a plethora of new radio channels. In the Netherlands there are about 110 radio channels occupying various DAB+ multiplexes. WorldDAB reports slightly more than 1 million DAB+ receivers in use (October 30).
