VPRT-Präsident Jürgen Doetz zum heute veröffentlichten 18. KEF-Bericht:

„Der VPRT begrüßt, dass die KEF ganz kräftig auf die Gebührenbremse getreten ist und die Anmeldungen der Anstalten radikal gekürzt hat. Vom angemeldeten Finanzbedarf sind für die ARD lediglich rund 22 % und für das ZDF sogar nur 14 % anerkannt worden. Die KEF hält es für zumutbar, selbst die verbleibende Summe des ungedeckten Finanzbedarfs in Höhe von insgesamt rund 304 Mio. € nicht durch eine Gebührenerhöhung zu kompensieren. Entgegen der eigenen Wahrnehmung haben also nicht ARD und ZDF selbst, sondern die KEF hat Sorge dafür getragen, dass der Rundfunkbeitrag für mindestens zwei Jahre stabil bleiben wird. Der jetzt vorgelegte Bericht liest sich mit Blick auf die von der KEF geäußerten Einsparerwartungen insbesondere beim Personal, aber auch bei Programmaufwand und -verbreitung wie eine schallende Ohrfeige. Nicht zu vergessen: Unabhängig von allen Kürzungen verbleiben unter dem Strich gerade in den Bereichen HDTV, Digitalkanäle und DAB+ insgesamt beachtliche Gebührenmittel in dreistelliger Millionenhöhe.“ Der VPRT wird den 18. KEF-Bericht eingehend analysieren.

Fondation Hirondelle - RADIO MIRAYA'S NEW EDITOR IN CHIEF/HEAD OF MEDIA - January 16, 2012

Kevin Howard the former GMG Radio Programme Director has been appointed Editor in Chief/Head of Media at South Sudan’s national News and speech radio station, Radio Miraya.

The radio station is a partnership between Fondation Hirondelle and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. Created in June 2006 to support the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement, Radio Miraya is the only independent national broadcaster in the new republic. Radio Miraya’s mission is to accompany the creation of a democratic, peaceful and stable new state in South Sudan.

Kevin Howard was the former UTV Programme Director at Signal Radio in Stoke-on-Trent, in 2007 he was appointed Programme Director at Century Radio in the north east of England, which he later rebranded to Real Radio in 2009. He was also Launch Director of Smooth Radio in the north east in 2008.

He later took up the role of Programme Director of Smooth Radio in the East Midlands in 2009. Kevin says of his appointment “This is an amazing opportunity for me to put my stamp on what is already a great station in the world’s newest country and be part of building a new nation. The journalists and presenters here want to absorb so much and I hope I can pass on my knowledge to them. I am really looking forward to working with the team at Fondation Hirondelle and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan”.

Latterly Kevin has worked for BBC WM in Birmingham and regularly lectures in media at a number of universities in the midlands, he has already taken up his position in South Sudan.
